Weekend update

Last weekend was pretty good.  It seemed like I was go, go, go the whole time.  My buddy Jeff made it into town so spent a good amount of time hang out with him and meet some of his friends from when he used to live here.

Here is the quick synopsis of the weekend.  I will try to post some photos tonight.

Friday.  Fogo de Choa for lunch which is a meat eaters dream followed by the Natural History Museum.  End up going out that night to the U street corridor with some people I met the previous week.

Saturday.  Drove at to Dewey beach Delaware and stayed at friends of Jeff.  That place was a little like springs break on a big weekend.  I am not sure if I am getting a little old for that or if it's just the east coast vibe.  I can say the music was generally awful but we still managed to have a good time.

Sunday. Drove back to DC, cleaned up, then hit Old Town Alexandria for lunch at this chili spot.  In the afternoon we played tourist and went to Mt. Vernon to check out GW's house.  It's on a pretty site.  The house and grounds are ok from an entertainment factor.  I did enjoy the museum though.  Probably the best thing about Mt. Vernon.

Monday.  Went for a long run in the AM and found some outdoor work out stations.  I need to join a gym but for now those will do.  in the afternoon met my friend Jeff at his old house and hung out with his former roommates.  Good guys although Arlington is a little bit of a mission from my place. Especially without a car.

Which reminds me... things for future posts,  Pics of the Weekend, Update on Work,  Discussion about what to do about transportation.

Checking the Weather

What's the biggest difference living on the east coast?  You actually have to check the weather when you plan things.  I'm not to use to that.  You just expect it to be 72 and sunny when you are in LA.  DC, you have to deal with rain and temp swings.

It's been almost a week since my last post so I guess it's time to catch up.  I guess I've just been feeling lazy.  Last weekend was a pretty fun weekend.  Went out drinking, met some new people, and did a little bit of exploring.  Lately I feel like I'm living that Jim Carey movie Yes Man were he goes to a self-help guru who convinces him he should say Yes to every think.  When you are in a new city and you get the opportunity to get out, you say yes.  Even if it's something you aren't that into.  For example last Sunday I went and did yoga because I was invited.  I've done yoga before and it's not really my thing but I went anyways.  And honestly, if I'm invited again, I'll go again.  Such is life if a new city.

For this weekend my friends Jeff and Jamie are in town.  The office is shut down tomorrow afternoon so I'm not even sure if I am going to go in.  Basically that means a 4 day weekend.  Tomorrow the plan is to meet up with my friends for a DC tourist day.  Then Saturday we are planning on driving out to Dewey Beach, Delaware.  I think its a few hour drive but I hear it is quite the party.  As for Sunday and Monday, I will figure it out as it comes.  Hopefully I will get lots of pictures and say yes to a few new random adventures.

Weekend plans

Just landed in DC. That was not a good flight. I had what was supposed to be an upgraded seat but I think it was worse. I was in the fist row which did have more knee room but had less leg room because if the wall. Normally you can slide your feet under the chair in front of you.  I need to use Seat Guru more.

I don't think I'd go into the office today be its our monthly all hands where I am being introduced and I need staffing for my next project. Also I moved to DC to be close to the office. I might as well suck it up and go in.

Like I said in my last post, I have a full weekend. I was supposed to go on an internet date this evening but the girl has gone silent. We will see if that one happens.  Tomorrow I have two parties. The first is with a friend of a friend who I am meeting for the first time for a BBQ in Columbia heights.  The second is the birthday party of an acquaintance that I know from the southbay. Both will be good opportunities to build my network and just invite myself along to any other fun things going on.  I also want to true to hit up a crossfit gym on Saturday and try to do something healthy.

Next weekend my budy Jeff is coming in from manhattan beach with his girlfriend. He grew up in the area so I will hopefully get to meet some of his friends. Also there is talk of heading to Dewey beach on Saturday. Jeff claims it makes the southbay seem mild. We will see.

Time to shower, throw on the suit and have another diet coke fueled day. Cheers.

Dumb ideas

It's Thursday night and I'm at lax waiting for my red eye flight to DC. Which by the way was the dumbest idea ever. I am F'ing tired. The original thought was that I'd hang out with some friends in MB, get dinner, then off to the airport. Sounded like a good plan except for the fact that the sooner you get in a plane, the soon you get to fall asleep. Lesson learned.

On the work front thing have been good.  Next week is the last week of my current project. I can't believe it's been 10 weeks all ready. Time flies when you are busy. I am still not sure what my next project will be so ill just have to wait it out. Staffing is a strange thing, they give you out for free for your first project so you get picked up. You earn your bonus based on hours billed so it will be good for me to get on a
project where I'm billable. I could stay on my current project which is not billable or go on the beach, hang around the office, and try to get picked up. It sounds odd but it's in my best interest right now to not be on a project so that I can get a billable project and earn that bonus.

Not sure if I explained that well but I'm tired

On the social front this will be a big weekend.  Two different parties on the schedule so lots of opportunities to make friends and get settled. I will post more on that this weekend.

Team work

Live as a team, die as a team.  That means the whole team stays until the last person is done.  Last night that was me. We got off at 10. Tonight is someone working on a slide. 10pm is quickly approaching.

Thursdays are the Best

Why are Thursdays the best.  Because it means the week is pretty much over and it's time to get on a plane home.  Although this week the plan is a little different.  After working out of LA all week I am flying up to SLO for mothers day.

Yep, you heard right, I'm flying instead of driving.  Pretty nice huh?  The rule for work is that as long as the flight you book is cheaper than the cost of the flight you'd normally take, you can go where ever you want. So ya, I'm flying.  Those in San Diego, sorry, it's been a long time since I've been up north so that's the way I'm going.

On side night.  I am going to snowboard my brains out next winter because of the is rule.  I was actually thinking about getting one of those multi mountain passes.

Interesting press

Executive platnum

I'm right in the middle of the SPG executive platinum challenge, 15 stays in 3 months, and to be honest the LAX Sheraton is kind of striking out.

Last week the light in my room flickered and the Internet didn't work. This week I went to use the iron and it smeared dirt all over my shirt. On the bright side every time I complain they give me more points. At this rate I am going to be able to take a vacation on points earlier then I thought.

Georgetown

Went for a jog today and ended up in Georgetown. It's a pretty cool area. I think I'm going to have to hang out there a bit. It looked like there were lots if good restaurants and few bars worth checking out.

What's the part about cross country flights?

What's the part about cross country flights? That you are unplugged from the world for five hours. It's kind of turned into my "me time".

Although now that I moved to DC and where I don't know anyone, I think I am going to have lots of me time.

So what's in store for the weekend? I get In at 1:30 am this morning. I wanted to go into the office tomorrow but that is going to be exhausting. For Saturday I signed up for a crossfit class and I need to figure out how to get my car-less self to target. And beyond that not much else.

New day, new bed

This morning I woke up and had no clue where I was. So I started thinking about it and I've slept in 6 beds over the last 7 nights.

Hotel in Miami -> air mattes in MB -> friends in MB -> friends in Virginia -> new house in DC -> hotel in LA. No wonder I had no clue where I was.

Oh we'll of to gym at 6 am.
